Sectional felling Carefully dismantling a tree in small sections when access is restricted or when there are obstacles to be avoided underneath the crown. The operation is usually undertaken with heavy-duty rigging, lowering ropes & skilled branch removal techniques.
Crown reductions Whereby all branches are reduced, in length, back to suitable growth points. As a result the entire tree crown is reduced in size and volume, whilst retaining the tree’s natural shape.
Crown lifting The process consists of increasing the distance between ground level and the crown. This is achieved by removing the lowest branches to a specific height.
Crown thinning Branches are removed from within the tree crown to make the canopy less dense. The tree’s crown is completely unaffected. The tree will benefit from a reduced ‘Sail Effect’ (wind resistance) and more light allowed to filter through its crown.
Dead wooding The removal of dead, dying or dangerous branches to ensure a safe and more aesthetically pleasing crown.
Pollarding The method of encouraging lateral branches by cutting off a tree stem or minor branches two or three metres above ground level. The tree is then allowed to regrow after the initial cutting, but once begun, pollarding requires regular maintenance.
Coppicing The process by which young tree stems are cut down to a foot or less from ground level. In doing so, a multitude of new shoots are encouraged to grow.
Cable bracing Weather conditions can put more strain on mature tree’s structural integrity. This can compromise weak branch unions. Cable bracing is used to stabilise a tree with weak branch unions by providing equal support between the major limbs.
Felling Causing a tree to fall under control by carefully making a series of strategic cuts at the base of the trunk.
Stump Removal Employing a machine called a 'stump grinder' that has Tungsten Carbide Teeth that cuts away the protruding stump until atleast 6 inches below the surface. The area can then be back-filled with the mulchings and left to degrade before re-seeding or re-turfing.
